Baltimorean Chip Weinman began a career in broadcasting in the 1980’s which he parlayed into his current day job as President of the Maryland/DC/Delaware Broadcasters’ Association.

Now he wants to become a romantic balladeer for baby boomers.  How does a Washington lobbyist-turned-pop singer get himself on national television?

Instead of signing up for “America’s Got Talent,” Chip signed up for a vocal camp run by Josh Groban’s voice teacher, where he joined a hundred 20-year-old kids – and a famous manager who dismissed him as too old to be considered for a record contract.

Years of lobbying had taught Chip to view rejection as opportunity.  To a guy who had already lost 110 pounds and survived thyroid cancer, being dissed by a record company exec was more annoying than discouraging.

Five years later, it’s the record companies who are as good as dead; and Chip is shooting his own concert special for PBS stations – with a 47-piece orchestra and special guest Sheena Easton -- at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre on November 14th.
